Grok Bot vs Meta Muse: Two Always-On AI Agents, Compared

Grok Bot vs Meta Muse: two always-on AI agents compared

Two big companies launched the same kind of product within a month of each other: an AI agent that gets its own computer in the cloud and keeps working after you close the app. xAI's version is Grok Bot. Meta's is Muse. Neither has been independently tested yet, so treat everything below as what the companies and early reviewers say, not what we have verified.

Quick take

Grok Bot, in beta since August 11, 2026, is aimed at work. It signs into your company's tools, and several bots can coordinate in a group chat. Muse, announced September 8, 2026, is aimed at everyday life: shopping, bookings and errands, through an app or WhatsApp.

Our read: Grok Bot is the more powerful and the riskier of the two. Muse is easier to start with, but it already has a public privacy complaint and a major retailer blocking it.

Prices and availability come from press coverage, not the vendors' own pricing pages. Check them before you pay for anything.

Diagram: you send a task, the agent's cloud computer does the work, and it signs into your tools and sites. Risk: your logins live on that machine.
Both agents work the same basic way: the job runs on a machine the vendor hosts.

What's real and what's hype

The real shift is that both products move the agent off your device and onto a machine the vendor runs, so it keeps working after you close the app. That is a genuine step past a chatbot.

What differs is the bet. xAI is selling coordination: a squad of bots sharing one computer, built on technology from its Cursor deal. Meta is selling trust and convenience: credentials kept in secure storage the agent can use but not see, chats kept out of its ad systems, and an option to opt out of model training.

The hype to discount is the launch language about agents doing your work for you or handling every part of your life. Early coverage is mostly vendor descriptions and first impressions. We found no independent task-completion numbers for either product.

Risks, and what we'd test

Both agents hold your logins on a machine you don't control, so the risks are about access and mistakes.

  • Shared computer (Grok Bot): coverage says xAI itself called the shared computer a real blast radius. One bad instruction could touch every connected tool.
  • Reading more than you expect (Muse): a reviewer at Inc. reported that the Mac app synced his local Messages database and surfaced private messages he never asked it to read.
  • Blocked by sites (Muse): Amazon blocked Muse from its retail site on September 21, 2026, while Shopify allowed it. Shopping coverage depends on who lets agents in.
  • Accidental damage (both): launch coverage noted that agents have deleted user data by mistake before.

Before we'd recommend either one, we'd test four things:

  • How often it finishes a real task, like a booking or a report, with no help.
  • What it asks permission for, and whether it asks before reading messages or changing anything.
  • What happens when a site blocks it or a step fails: does it stop, or guess?
  • How to see, pause and undo what it did while you were away.

A note on names: "Grok agents" can also mean xAI's Grok Build coding agent, which can run up to eight agents at once, and a multi-agent research model in the xAI API. This piece covers Grok Bot only. And Muse here is Meta's agent, not the older video-hosting company that also uses the muse.ai name.
